Default Anyone ever use a Magnavox Philips D2999 ???

I think this radio introduced the "portatop" class of SW radios and
influenced the layout design of Drake's SW8. I have had one of these
for several years (bought from someone in this NG, actually).
This radio is hard to beat for audio quality due to its two speakers
(the 3" one on the front and the 7" one on top). SSB uses the BFO
method, which can be fussy to operate, especially on weak stations. I
had to perform an AGC mod on mine as there was too much pumping
(replacing the AGC cap by a larger one fixed that).
If you get one in good condition, and the one on auction appears to be,
you will be happy with it.
