Default What if... The Roman Empire had short wave...

I have long thought that if the Roman Republic had had (what we now call)
absentee balloting then it might well have lasted a lot longer (and not have
become the Roman Empire). As it was, a citizen had to be in Rome to vote.
If shortwave radio had existed, votes out in the provinces could have been
quickly tallied together. Such a scheme could have held off the
centralization of power that morphed into the Empire.

???

If the Roman Imperial government had their own "Praetorian Short Wave
Guards" that could get the point across quicker then the famed "Roman
Roads", what kind world would we have today ??? Better or worse ??? As so
many historians have said, the so called "fall" of the Roam Empire cost

the
world in general a few hundred years in social and technological

evolution.
IMO although the Romans had gladiatorial games (American football without
regular mortalities) and slavery... (below poverty class but they actually
had a fine Greek education open to them as well as a chance to break out

and
gain freedom), were by far and away the most socially advanced and
religiously inclusive society that ever graced the planet.

I cant help thinking what might have been if they had the capability to

get
the message across the globe in seconds.

When Scipio Africanus pushed Hannibal Barca aside, and Julius Cesar
corralled the Gauls, with a shortwave transmitter, we may have had world
peace about 2,000 years ago.

Yes... A retarded but interesting question. IMO technology came a few
thousand years too late.

That sounds like a couple episodes of the original Star trek What if they had had gunpowder and artillery ? The opening scene of "Gladiator" is reminiscent of a modern day artillery barrage. Germany would have been a different place. And if they had captured more territory and enslaved the population, they might well have conquered asia. The possibilities are intriquing. If the Third Reich had been able to use the resources of their conqured territories to advantage, Russia might be very different today as well.
