Does DSL cause any interference with radio?

The principal offender in my shack remains the CRT computer monitor. Which brings me to a question. Sometimes, the CRT causes a real racket. At others, none. Unless the amount of emitted RFI varies greatly, do local atmospherics amplify or attenuate it? |

As I recall on a CRT there can be some harmonic rich square waves and overshoot in the deflection coils caused by high contrast borders in the displayed image. I suggest you switch to a nice LCD. Your eyes will thank you. |

The harmonics from the sweep circuits will change with the resolution. The RFI from the video will change with the picture information. Frank Dresser |

Don't get a high speed connection DSL or cable without a hardware router between it and the Internet. Get the router as a gateway and use the Windows XP firewall. -- Telamon Ventura, California |

I have two intereference sources in my shack - the CRT's and the 4 port
hub. The CRT intereference occurs on harmonics of the line frequency and if one appears on a wanted signal, I go into Properties, Settings, Advanced and shift the monitor to a new frequency. The LAN into my hub is 100ft long and radiates a variety of noises and the 100MHz hub is much worse than the 10MHz hub, so my only workaround here is to swap hubs if the occasion demands. The DSL is not a cause of any noises, just the stuff distributing it! Brad. |
