Hi,
Was wondering if anyone has any experience using the "Premium" Thomas & Betts, Black, "UV-Resistant" nylon tie wraps out of doors ? e.g., do they become brittle after a fer years due to very cold temps, or UV ? Or, do they really hold up well, etc. ? Thanks, Bob |

I have my Davis anemometer wire attached to the pole with them, 8 years this summer, still holding. |

I'd like to put up one with a computer interface and some graphing software that shows direction and speed. Any ideas for a reasonably priced set up? These measurements would be used to calculate how much total power a small windmill should be making (but probably isn't) mike |

You ever look at old sixty years old or older, house wireing wrapped with
good old fashioned friction tape? (Note,I did not say plastic tape, that plastic tape will not hold for five minutes) That good old faishioned friction tape will hold foever, inside or outside. It waterproofs too. cuhulin |

Maybe they are OK, but believe t or not, good old electrica tape wrapped
about 5 layers thick can last for 10 years or more as long as you CUT the end off, not stretch it to break it off. |

I was always taught to use a good tight wrap of friction tape, and cover it with a good tight, clean (no fingerprints) wrap of regular electrical tape. I've seem some of those last a good long time. Haven't played much with the self-sealing plastic-ish tape they sell for weathersealing. -- All relevant people are pertinent. All rude people are impertinent. Sure, you can wrap it snugly for a few layers, but if you pull it to
snap it off, it crinkles up and pulls away from the layer below it. Cut the tape and seal it down firmly for the last finish. |
