Since there isn't much of interest on shortwave anymore, since the
1960s - 1970s, I wouldn't have put out that type of money, but would have stuck with the Degen 1103... |

The internet killed HF broadcasting. It was alive and well until about 10 years ago. Well, actually shortwave as an information transmission medium began to die about 10 years ago because broadcasters realized they could reach a larger audience with better programming at a lower cost. Listeners have been turning away from shortwave radio in droves. Shortwave broadcasters are interested in getting the message out reliably to the largest potential audience and they are wedded only to the technology that gets the job done most effectively. If shortwave could fill that requirement then there is no doubt that broadcasters would continue to use that medium. So the internet didn't kill shortwave, but shortwave is slowly dying because there is not an economical way to make it competitive with internet, satellite and cable broadcasting. |

Doesn't the E5 also have alpha-tags for the memories? That alone would make
it a good deal... "lsmyer" wrote in message ... My E5 was $139 including shipping from HRO. The DE1103 was about $70 including shipping from Liypn. Was it worth twice the price? For me it was, especially to get a radio that's much easier to use, plus a money-back guarantee from HRO, and a full warranty from Eton. |
