with the SR1 or SRII. The SRIII is a different breed of cat, and has indeed
suffered from abysmal quality control. I have yet to see one that is
properly calibrated, and the are definately cheaply built. The SR1 and SRII,
on the other hand, are virtually indestructible, and are not made with cheap
plastic nor with cheap third rate components. The only two times I have ever
seen a switch fail on an SRII are when the owner thereof decided to use
their fist to turn on the radio.. and have never seen a switch failure on an
SR1, which had a heavy metal built switch.

Good for you Frank. :-) I am sure Brenda Ann will do a fine job on it.
I have a GE P780 that I got from Brenda a few years back and I use it
every day.

Absolutely nothing. Yes, it is a good performer and the best of the
three superadios IMO. Kind of surprised you have one Steve, with the

I've already had a Superadio III for many years that I use by the bedside. I
happened to see the Superadio II at a shop here in town that takes donated
items, sells them and the uses the proceeds to purchase religious literature to
send to other countries.

I picked up the Superadio II for $4.00, cleaned a bit of dust off of it and it's
jut like brand new. It's a very fine radio for MW use. The next day they had the
Radio Shack MW loop out there and I picked that up as well.

Now I'm hoping that a Superadio I in very nice condition shows up, or even
another Superadio II.

Whilst mainly interested in SW broadcast DX I do dabble in MW from time to time.

I have read before,years and years ago,the first G.E.Superadios were/are
the best G.E.Superadios.I really did try out one of those first model
G.E.Superadios (running on batteries) in the Sears store parking lot
(275 foot steps from my front yard) but that radio didn't show me
anything,so I didn't buy it.

like the Yahoo Grundig S350 group. I am SOOOO jealous !

Now, why would Frank sell a radio that needs realignment (and not be
upfront about it) to unsuspecting customers ?

When did GE start using varactor tuning in the SR instead of a
mechanical variable capacitor?

When the SRIII came out. Crappy system, too. Almost impossible to make it
track. I believe there's a DC/DC converter in there that boosts the voltage
up to enough to make an adequate frequency excursion.

I would think the varactor tuned circuit also had a poor 'Q' compared to
the mechanical capacitor design.
