It still beats television. Since they are both garbage, get another hobby, and stop wasting your money on modern-day cheap plastic box receivers ! AM DXing beats SW DXing, anytime ! If anything is a thing of the past, it is AM DX'ing (much to my chagrin). With more and more stations testing IBOC at night, it won't be long now before all you hear on the AM band at night will be IBOC hash. ![]() How many stations are testing HD at night? I have only heard of a couple of very specific tests, such as the WLW and WOR skywave test a few years ago. WNYC 820 WCBS 880 in NYC, both have done all night testing. On rare occasions. KGO 810 in S.F. Same... occasional testing, mostly due to the installation of the new Nautel 50 kw transmitter 10 days ago. Testing after midnight is legal, including for daytimers at full power... which causes vastly mor einterference than an occasional HD test. KEX 1190 in Portland, OR (I can't verify that one at the moment, will ask for verification later.) That's certainly more than one or two stations, and I suspect there are a lot more doing testing than just these. As I said, there is no ongoing testing. There is occasional testing just as there is for daytimers, etc., in the test hours after midnight. |
