I have a B&W AP-10 portable antenna that covers two meters through 40
meters for auction on eBay. The URL with pictures is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=330460481601 and the words a This is a portable antenna made by B&W that is usable on ham bands 2 meters through 40 meters. It has coils for 10, 15, 20, and 40 meters, as well as an 11-meter coil. The whip/counterpoise is used without a coil for 2 and 6 meters. The coils are made from miniductor coil stock so coils for the WARC bands could be easily fabricated or hand-wound. I have not performed these modifications, however. Also included is the counterpoise that is unrolled to the marked positions to resonate on your operating frequency, a whip antenna that collapses to about 24 inches and extends to about 54 inches, and the original instruction manual. The model designation was "370-10" when I bought this but the designation was later changed to "AP-10". Unfortunately, this fine antenna has been discontinued for many years and no longer available. I bought it new from Quement Electronics ("The Bascom Bandit") in San Jose in about 1980 for $90.00. Bands are changed by swapping in the coil for the band of choice by unscrewing two screws, extending the whip, and then unrolling the counterpoise to achieve resonance. The clamp may be screwed to a picnic table, window frame, or any convenient support. The antenna, support, coils and feedline are all in excellent condition. The plexiglas rod that holds the coil and whip has some crazing, but it has been like that since new and has not failed or weakened. I used this antenna for many years while on business trips, and would always request the highest room available in the hotel, with a window facing Europe. Had multitudes of DX contacts on 20 meters: it's a wonder how much it helps when your antenna is 20 stories up -- hihi! Being realistic, however, your not going to blast a hole in the pileup for the DXpedition on Fogbartz Island (ZZ3FU) with this antenna, but if your choice is using this antenna or not operating, you'll be pleased by the results this antenna will give you. Instructions say up to 300 watts but I'd bet it would handle more. Closes Sunday August 22, 2010. Thank you. |
