No bad digits or segments, otherwise operationally
unknown. Appearance is VG (high-res JPEGs available). $25 plus shipping without manual (I paid $40 for an original manual). $45 plus shipping with manual. (Manual alone is $40 shipped.) [Translation: I bought this damn thing, paid $40 for a manual, and STILL could not get it to work. Better call it 'untested'] |

Subject: frequency counter with Nixie-type display

Real translation: I already had two perfectly good counters but had a thing for Nixie displays (as I said in the ad) so I got this one, then went looking for a manual because I ALWAYS get one for all my gear (which may not be rational, but the whole boatanchor thing isn't totally rational), found one, paid $40 for it, flipped the counter on to watch the display show random numbers, watched again a few other days, let the counter sit for a couple of years, and decided to sell it on the same basis that I bought it: a counter with a working display. Don't let the shanigans of a few less-than-honest SOBs turn you completely cynical. Avery W3AVE Potomac, Md. |

Subject: frequency counter with Nixie-type display
From: Leonard Martin Date: 1/8/2005 2:28 AM Eastern Standard Time Anyone would think that, from what you originally posted. You're obviously an articulate person. Why didn't you give a few more details initially? I'll never understand this terse posting/listing by people who want to sell things to complete strangers. On eBay it's especially irritating. It's like the seller thinks he's talking to his best friend: "Hey bro. Find a nice counter for ya. Goes to 200 Mhz. How about 50 bucks?" Out here in the world of strangers we need a bit more detail. Leonard Leonard, you make a good point, but the item for sale was extremely cheap by any standard--worst case, the manual could be resold for $25 or $30. It just didn't occur to me to supply the amount of detail that I would if I were selling a $250 or $500 piece of gear. BTW, I did sell the counter for my asking price, and the buyer is very happy--as he should be, in my opinion, but I agree that that has nothing to do with your argument. FWIW, when you objected publicly to the skimpy description, I responded publicly with the back story. I hope that counts for something. Avery W3AVE |

I sold the counter to him and it did indeed work when I sold it to him and I don't doubt it still does. Oddly, my rationale for buying it and selling it was just like Avery's! ![]() Barry - N4BUQ |
