For Auction:
Kenwood TS-520SE with DG-5 digital frequency display See eBay Item number: 5838003571 OR http://tinyurl.com/98y8r Buy it now for $300. The Kenwood TS520SE is designed for SSB and CW modes in the 160 through 10 meter ham bands. It also features receive of WWV at 15 MHz. Power output is 100W. Features: 160-10 meters Noise Blanker RF Attenuator 25kHz Marker RIT Speech Processor IF Shift 120VAC operation Also includes the Kenwood DG5 digital frequency display with 100Hz accuracy (missing front cover). This can also be used as a conventional frequency counter from 100 Hz to 40 MHz. Gate time is 0.1 seconds. At one time the top digit was intermittent (ie. for 14000kHz , the "1" would switch between different numbers) but the last few times I tested it, it did not exhibit this behavior. In any case, that was always the least important digit since you always know what band you are on. Includes all cables to connect the DG5 to the TS520SE. Includes AC power cable. Includes original instruction/operator manual. It's been a good rig for me for 10 years and still works fine but I'm moving on. An oldie but a goodie. Double-boxed for shipping. Ship weight 43#, dimensions 30x16x21 from 91023. -- Dave * N3WTK |

The Kenwood TS520SE is designed for SSB and CW modes in the 160 through
10 meter ham bands. It also features receive of WWV at 15 MHz. Power output is 100W. Are you sure about the 100 watt output? The spec for the TS520S says 160 watt INPUT on CW and 200 watt INPUT on SSB. The adjustment section of the service manual for a TS520S states that OUTPUT will be greater than 80 watts on 3.75, 7.15, 14,175, and 21.225 MHz. It also states that power output will be greater than 50 watts on 28.3, 28.8 and 29.4 MHz. |

Get a life chuck, 520's will easily do 100 out anywhere anytime with
good tubes.. I have a life and I have the FACTS. Would you like me to send you a copy of the alignement page from the Kenwood service manual quoting the output power? I own a TS520S and it will NOT produce 100 watts measured by a Motorola service monitor (when tuned per the instructions in the manual). Maybe you can abuse the tubes and get more, I never tried that. chuck |

Anytime the TS-520 does not putout 100 watts keydown into a 50 ohm load
,IT IS BROKE,BROKE, Look at it this way,, 160 watts input at 65% effeciency = 104 watts output..On HF, 160 thru 15 meters 60 to 65 % eff. is normal..A service monitor calibrated for VHF/UHF may be a bit off at HF freqs..It happens .. Hal |

Anytime the TS-520 does not putout 100 watts keydown into a 50 ohm load
,IT IS BROKE,BROKE, Look at it this way,, 160 watts input at 65% Then why does Kenwood, the manufacture, have lower numbers in their service manual? I did some testing on my TS520S. With 200ma plate current it produces about 80 watts on the low bands which is spec. If I crank up the drive and exceed the 200ma plate current spec, I can get 100 watts on some bands, but not all bands (like 10m). How long will my tubes last if I exceed the 200 ma spec? I don't know and its not worth the risk for a fraction of an S unit. I looked in a 1992 ARRL handbook. They spec the efficiency of a class AB amp at 50%. (see section 15). 50% of 160 watts is 80 watts which is exactly what I am seeing on my radio. Say what you want. I believe the service manual. chuck |
